Unit description
Part 2 of 2 units comprising the first social work field placement. Engages students in 400 hours (across SWRK5005 and SWRK5006) of supervised social work practice developing professional skills, knowledge and values in line with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) practice standards for social work. Transfers learning gained from other units to practice in a real organisation. (SWRK5006 is completed in the same human service organisation in which the student completed SWRK5005).
Unit content
- Forming, maintaining and ending ethical and professional relationships with clients, colleagues and others
- Communicating effectively with a range of stakeholders from diverse populations
- Analysing team work and other group dynamics within the workplace
- Understanding, developing and applying evidence based social work practice relevant to the setting
- Critically reflecting on development of own communication and practice skills
- Making effective use of professional supervision
- Identifying gaps in learning and ongoing learning needs
Learning outcomes
