Unit description

Provides students with the opportunity to build on skills and knowledge developed in Professional Experience I through further classroom experience. Provides an understanding of theory, issues and contemporary practice of educational program evaluation and how it relates to the secondary school context. Students will develop an understanding of the practical skills required when designing, conducting and reporting educational program evaluations. Focuses on the further requirements for beginning teachers starting out in this profession, in regards to the skills needed to be a competent, confident and effective practitioner.

Unit content

Module 1 – Educational program evaluation in the secondary school context.

  • What is educational program evaluation in relation to the secondary school context?
  • Types and purposes of educational program evaluation
  • Choosing appropriate methods and techniques to suit particular purposes
  • Identifying and using evaluative criteria and sources of evidence
  • Designing and using data collection tools
  • Involving students in evaluation.

Module 2 – Preparation for the Profession

  • Ongoing professional learning
  • Communicating with parents and carers 
  • Working in a learning community
  • Employment preparation
  • Preparation for Professional Experience

Module 3 – Professional Experience II

Students will undertake 25 days of professional experience.
