Unit description
Introduces students to the teaching of English in years 7-10 (Stages 4-5). Students will reflect critically on contemporary perspectives of teaching of English in secondary schools. Students will learn about the syllabus requirements, the development of a unit of work, the development of detailed lesson plans and the importance of effective assessment strategies. Students will develop their content knowledge for teaching English as a specialisation subject and become familiar with evidenced-based teaching practices.

Learning outcomes
Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
