Unit description
Provides students with an understanding of the key issues, debates and challenges in contemporary early childhood education and care (ECEC). Students develop skills to investigate and critically examine issues from a range of perspectives and argue their position on these issues with reference to authoritative literature and their personal approach/philosophy of learning, development and teaching within ECEC.
Unit content
Module 1: Contemporary issues in early childhood education and care
Module 2: Investigating issues of importance to the EC profession
Module 3: Issues of importance to parents
Module 4: Issues of importance for children
Module 5: Issues identified by media; local/national and international communities
Module 6: Positioning a professional view on a selected issue within ECEC
Learning outcomes
Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit.
