Unit description

Builds on prior pedagogical knowledge for developing and delivering rigorous and engaging Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) based learning in primary schools. Through investigation of rapidly developing STEM education approaches, pedagogy and resources, students will develop a solid understanding of being a leader in STEM education in the primary school setting.

Module 2: Professional Networks and support for STEM education

Module 3: Pedagogy and Curriculum for STEM in primary schools 

Module 4: Teaching STEM in the primary classroom 

Module 5: Assessment inside the STEM primary classroom

Module 6: Primary School STEM Leadership

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1demonstrate a sound knowledge of STEM education (K-6) as a cross-disciplinary approach to promote mathematical, scientific and technological literacy based in real-world contexts
2identify, utilise and evaluate effective pedagogy for STEM education in primary schools
3plan engaging and purposeful content linked to effective assessment for tracking student progress and improving whole school performance in STEM
4identify, develop, evaluate and promote resources for STEM education and emergent STEM education leadership

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
