Unit description
Historical developments and contemporary factors that influence the Australian Textile, Clothing and Footwear Industries are critically analysed. Students explain the properties and performance of a range of textile fibres, yarns and fabric. Manufacturing processes are described and experimentation is applied to analyse the molecular and morphological structure and properties of fibres and fabrics. Colouring techniques are selected and functional end-use applications of textiles are identified. Innovations and emerging textile technologies are explored and discussed.
