Unit description

Students will be undertaking four units of study. The module introduces the global environment within which the travel and tourism industry operates and provides a  contemporary and modern perspective on the hospitality industry. Students will be given an overview of  alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages in the hospitality industry, and an introduction to industry practice.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1 understand the global environment within which the travel and tourism industry operates.
2actively research contemporary issues and trends within hotels and the tourism industry with the aim of writing media articles.
3understand the different types of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, associated storage, production and support equipment, and appropriate service of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages.
4understand industry practices in order to commence an internship.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

  1. understand the global environment within which the travel and tourism industry operates.
  2. actively research contemporary issues and trends within hotels and the tourism industry with the aim of writing media articles.
  3. understand the different types of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, associated storage, production and support equipment, and appropriate service of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages.
  4. understand industry practices in order to commence an internship.
