Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

describe historical developments in the timber industry and their impact on manufacturing processes, materials and work practices

critique past and present impacts of the timber products and furniture industries on the economy, society, culture and the environment

debate structural, technical, environmental, personal, and sociological considerations related to the timber industry

describe new and emerging technologies in the timber industry and their impact on the way manufactured products are made and used

discuss the practice of design and production/manufacture in the timber products and furniture industry

demonstrate advanced, contemporary skills and methods for joinery, construction and finishing of timber products, and the use and maintenance of tools and machinery

apply project management (including WHS issues) and communication skills to the production and documentation of a complex, high quality timber product.
