Unit Snapshot

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

demonstrate detailed knowledge of the relationship between language and culture, and the notion of multiculturalism as evident in the primary classroom

express a clear understanding of the theories of second language learning and strategies associated with teaching EAL/D students

discuss a range of oral language and written language pedagogical practices for teaching, assessing and evaluating students who are EAL/D

implement and evaluate EAL/D strategies for enhancing communication, and strategies for teaching vocabulary

design a unit of work, developed within a cultural context, that focus on listening, speaking, reading, and writing for an identified EAL/D learner.
