Unit description

Applies the concepts of the engineering design process and design philosophy to an authentic engineering problem in a workplace setting. A core aspect of the unit is introducing students to the Engineers Australia (EA) Stage 1 competencies. Students apply skills important to engineers, including the use of reflective writing to demonstrate the development of EA competencies, while undertaking 160 hours of work placement.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

work in a team to plan, deliver and communicate an engineering project in a workplace environment

apply engineering management tools and techniques to plan and deliver a project

demonstrate an understanding of the Engineers Australia Code of Ethics and practice competently with integrity in a workplace

reflect on and self-assess development of proficiency in the Engineers Australia Stage 1 Competencies for Engineering Associates
