Jerry is Professor of Sustainable Forestry in the School of Environment, Science and Engineering. During 2007-18 he was also Dean of Science and Head of School. Before joining SCU, he was Principal Scientist with the Center for International Forestry Research, and Professor of Tropical Forestry at the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University in Copenhagen, Denmark. Jerry received a higher doctorate (D.Sc.For.) from the University of Queensland in 1992, received the Queen's Award for Forestry in 1997, and the IUFRO Scientific Achievement Award in 2010. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of NSW and a Fellow of the Institute of Foresters of Australia.

Jerry teaches Forest Modelling and Management FOR00109 and FOR03082.

Jerry has written over 350 publications, with more than 150 in refereed journals. His most recent book is Forest Growth and Yield Modeling. He also co-authored Realizing Community Futures, a guide to the use of participatory modelling for better environmental outcomes. Recent research includes mixed species plantings, competition indices,and participatory modelling.
