I am Associate Professor in Cultural Studies and Deputy Head of School (Research) in the School of Arts and Social Sciences at Southern Cross University. My research focuses on queer and gender studies, and the histories of science, medicine, and technology. My publications include two monographs: Anatomy as Spectacle: Public Exhibitions of the Body, from 1700 to the Present (Liverpool UP, 2011; paperback 2013) and Queer Writing: Homoeroticism in Jean Genet's Fiction (Palgrave 2009). I have also edited the collection Anatomical Imag(inari)es: The Cultural Impact of Medical Imaging Technologies (special issue of Somatechnics, 2012), Embodiment and the Archival Imaginary (special issue of Australian Feminist Studies, 2010), and Male Bodies (special issue of Men and Masculinities, 2007). I am currently working on two monographs: A Critical Genealogy of Normality, and Technology and the Training of the Senses (both funded by the ARC). I am also currently involved in a series of collaborative projects with SymbioticA, the Centre of Excellence in the Biological Arts at UWA. A full list of my publications can be accessed at my academia page, linked above.
