“Thank you, Southern Cross University, for the amazing Mock Trial event. Your team’s thorough communication and support made the evening a success. The event allowed my students to apply their knowledge practically and feel valued, especially seeing local judges and professionals involved. Since then, my class is more engaged and has a better grasp of the NSW legal system.”

Frequently asked questions
The Mock Trial is a dynamic competition where students from multiple schools come together to simulate a real courtroom trial experience. Each school will be represented by 6 student representatives.
The Mock Trial is open to Year 11 and 12 students with an interest in the legal system, offering them a chance to step into individual roles such as a Barrister, Court Officer or witness. Each school selects a team of six students to participate, and family and friends are invited to come and spectate.
All you need to bring is your enthusiasm, a sharp mind, and your preparatory notes! We have the gowns and gavel covered, so you can just focus on bringing your A-game to the courtroom. And of course, don’t forget to bring your cheering squad – family and friends are welcome to join in on the fun!
Absolutely! Participating schools will be sent the case, a competition manual, and a marking rubric.
An academic representative from our Law Faculty will then meet with each school to provide advice on the case and offer their guidance on preparation.
We will be in touch once you have registered your school’s interest. Due to the nature of the competition, we are unable to accommodate an uneven number of schools, so may ask you to join a waitlist.
Once your participation is confirmed, we ask for your commitment to the program, as a school withdrawal means the paired school will also lose their spot.
We understand circumstances change, so if individual students withdraw, we simply ask they be replaced. Normally the whole class will work on the case, meaning there are other prepared students who can step in.
