600 YEAR 11s TO ATTEND UNIVERSITY TOMORROW

More than 600 regional High School students who will undertake the HSC in 2002 are scheduled to attend the annual Senior Schools Day to be hosted at Southern Cross University's Lismore campus tomorrow, Friday, December 7.

As a sign of the University's commitment to the whole North Coast region, students are coming from government and private schools between Tweed Heads and Taree, with sixty students from Mid North Coast high schools travelling up to stay overnight.

The day, running from 10.00am-2.30pm, will provide many of the attending students with their first opportunity to get a first-hand look at University life. It will start with a general session offering information on topics such as applying for university, study costs, scholarships and other schemes, student organisations, residential accommodation services and student services such as careers advice and medical support.

The following sessions run by the academic schools will provide students with detailed information on courses in which they have expressed an interest. These sessions will be held mostly in the relevant academic SCU Schools, enabling students to inspect facilities such as science laboratories, lecture rooms and computer labs that they might be using next year and to get information on course structures, expected study loads and likely career opportunities.

The afternoon session in the Whitebrook (Y Block) Theatre with feature a panel discussion with current SCU students discussing the various aspects of University life and their own experiences.
