A special HSC Study Day at Southern Cross University's Lismore campus on Friday, 8 June, from 9.15am-4.45pm, has been designed to provide all local Year 12 students with strategies for maximising their final results in their courses of study this year.
A joint initiative by the NSW Department of Education and Training, the Catholic Education Office Lismore and SCU, the series of 24 seventy-minute sessions will focus on a comprehensive range of HSC subjects and provide both students and their teachers with vital information compiled by experienced, high-level educators.
Topics of focus include HSC exam preparation techniques and ways of networking with other students and teachers.
The Lismore District Superintendent for the NSW Department of Education and Training, Mr. Greg Cloak, said the HSC Study Day would be an excellent example of how school systems and universities can pool their expertise for mutual benefit.
"The students will gain a broader and more detailed understanding of their subjects and what is required in the exams, and university staff will gain a greater insight into the skill levels achieved by school students before they enter tertiary education," he said.
The Head of SCU's School of Education, Ms Marilyn Chaseling, said "All senior students have their various strengths and weaknesses and everyone encounters mounting stress as exam time approaches. By working together with students and teachers, our educators can help instil greater effectiveness and a more confident approach to HSC study."
Ms Chaseling said attending the HSC Study Day, the first to be held in the region, would be highly likely to pay dividends when sitting the actual examinations.
"Learning how to maximise exam outcomes is not just a matter of increasing your knowledge about the subjects in question but about understanding how students think and feel during the exam period, and how certain strategies can be employed to maximise marks," she said.
