ISABELLA A CAPPELLA TO SING FOR WORLD PEACE

The acclaimed Southern Cross University-based choral group Isabella A Cappella will headline a special World Peace concert at Robina Community Centre on the Gold Coast on Sunday, 25 November to raise funds for the Japan Centre, Tony Glynn Memorial House.

The Centre, to be built on SCU's Lismore campus, is dedicated to the memory of the Lismore-born Marist priest who worked in Nara, Japan for 42 years after WW2. Dubbed the 'Healer of Hate', Fr Glynn is a revered figure in Japan where he was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun. He also held the Order of Australia and the MBE.

Tickets are available at the door (or in advance - see below) from 3:00 pm for the 3:15 pm-5:00 pm Concert. As well as a full set from Isabella A Cappella's broad repertoire of songs, from pop and jazz to gospel and classical, there will be a special performance of traditional Japanese music -

Master Koto Player - Ms. Ms Keiko Watanabe

Plus Guest Speaker - Mr. Arthur Pike, author of the just published novel, 'A River To Cross' (Indra Publishing) focusing on Japan-Australia relationships.

Special raffle - Prize: Original work by Alan Waters (acclaimed NSW North Coast painter).

Comprised of Southern Cross University graduates and current students, the 8-voice Isabella A Cappella ensemble was formed in 1984 by the late Isabel Atchison, SCU staff member, and has gained a reputation for performing excellence. It is now under the musical direction of SCU lecturer Jude Magee.

It has released two successful CDs and undertaken national and overseas tours, including the USA, Japan (in 2000 and 2001) and New Zealand. Their songbook includes works by Gershwin, Lennon & McCartney, Don McLean and other popular composers, as well as some Japanese songs.
