SCU hosts Inaugural Professorial Lecture

Southern Cross University's Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Rickard, has invited regional tourism industry figures, dignitaries and academics to attend the Inaugural Southern Cross University Professorial Lecture on Thursday, September 20.
Recent professorial appointments, Professor Dick Braithwaite and Professor Neil Leiper, both with the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management, will give presentations, while Brisbane-based Sir Frank Moore AO, an esteemed tourism industry figure, will be the special guest speaker. Sir Frank chairs both the Tourism Forecasting Council and the Cooperative Research Centre for Sustainable Tourism.
The Head of the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Perry Hobson, said the Professorial Lecture was an opportunity for the Professors to present an address to members of the regional community on contemporary issues of regional and national significance.
"The appointment of these two Professors and their high profile in tourism management research in Australia underlines SCU's pre-eminent national place in tourism and hospitality management education and research," Mr. Hobson said.
Professor Dick Braithwaite, Chair in Sustainable Tourism Management with SCU's School of Tourism and Hospitality Management, will deliver an address titled 'What is the Future of Tourism?', with Professor Neil Leiper, Chair in Tourism Management, speaking on 'Universities' Research and Education on Tourism Management'.
The Southern Cross University Inaugural Professorial Lecture will be followed by an evening cocktail reception at the SCU Art Gallery.
SCU's School of Tourism and Hospitality Management has more than 1000 students in its programs. It won the Australian Tourism Award for Industry Education in 1999 and the NSW Tourism Award for Industry Education in 1999, 1998 and 1997.
