1750 new students will have their first taste of University life from next Monday, 18 February when Orientation Week kicks off at SCU's Lismore campus. An additional 950 external students, living both locally and elsewhere in Australia, will also be preparing to begin their academic year, which starts the following Monday and runs until the end of Semester 1 in mid-June.
A total of 3220 new students will commence at SCU this year, 2100 of them studying full-time and 1120 part-time. New student enrolments at other campuses are: Coffs Harbour 375, Tweed Gold Coast 120, Port Macquarie 25.
Continuing student numbers are: Lismore 2700, Coffs Harbour 500, Tweed Gold Coast 100, Port Macquarie 45. External 1900. Of these, 3250 (62%) will study full-time and 1995 (38%) part-time. SCU's total undergraduate student enrolment for 2002 will be 8465.
During O-Week new students will receive detailed information about their chosen courses, the University in general, including the activities of the Students' Union and the Student Representative Council, and a range of information about Lismore and the surrounding area. They are also invited to enjoy the entertainment and events staged by various student-run clubs and organisations.
Students commencing at SCU can easily familiarise themselves with all aspects of university life through a special O-Week website at http://scu.edu.au/orientation
"The O-Week site is designed to help students at the start of the new academic year", the Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Rickard, explained. "It includes course information sessions, social activities hosted by SCU academic Schools, details on student associations, computing tutorials, services and facilities, class timetables, important dates, maps, accommodation and transport services, and more".
The site will actually be available through the SCU homepage for a six-week period.
