The welcome ceremony, to be held in the D Block Lecture Theatre on Tuesday, 26 February at 1.00pm, will commence with a procession of Academic staff accompanied by a bagpipe playing escort. After the welcome address by Professor Delves, five full-degree Scholarships from the Vice-Chancellor's Scholarship Fund will be presented to the student recipients.

"The far north coast of NSW is one of Australia's most appealing and creative regions, the perfect location for Southern Cross University, a top-class institution offering a diversity of academic programs," the Vice-Chancellor said.

"SCU has the responsibility to educate around 9,000 students, half of whom study full-time," he added. "As well as gaining a high-quality university education, they bring a range of benefits to our region, both economic and social. As well as extending a warm welcome to new and returning students, especially those from other parts of Australia or overseas, I want to thank all local people for the courtesy and hospitality they show".

On the day, the SCU Students' Association will have a number of community service stalls, and a BBQ lunch and various activities will follow the welcome ceremony.

Media please note: You are invited to attend the welcoming ceremony. The Pro Vice-Chancellor and Scholarship recipients will be available for interview afterwards.
