2003 Budget Overview

Overall, the Budget is not significant for regional Australia. Therefore there are not many highlights for the Mid North Coast and North Coast of New South Wales, and the Tweed/Gold Coast region.

On balance the good news outweighs the bad. But for most people in the region, there is not a great deal to be excited about.

In a few areas, such as unemployment, small business, and education of nurses and teachers, there will be disappointment that not enough has been done to address major problems.

There is increased funding and opportunity for Southern Cross University, and as one of the largest employers and generators of income in the region, this is a boost for the regional economy.
