About 800 Year 12 students and their teachers will attend lectures to give them the edge in their crucial final year exams, at Southern Cross University’s Lismore campus on Thursday, 26 June, for the 3rd Annual HSC Day for Students & Teachers.
Students are coming from schools throughout the NSW northern rivers region and as far away as Guyra, near Armidale, to attend the HSC Day, being held from 9am to 5pm.
The day is a joint initiative of SCU’s School of Education, the NSW Department of Education and Training (DET), Lismore District Office, and the Catholic Education Office, Lismore.
Seven one-hour sessions will be held in six venues simultaneously throughout the day on campus.
The speakers are all very experienced in either setting HSC exams or in the marking of exams and include teachers from local high schools, the Catholic Education Office Lismore and beyond. For instance, Rick Connor a lecturer in the School of Physics, University of NSW, will speak on Physics in the HSC. Meanwhile Ken Dundas, a Senior Lecturer in Economics from SCU’s School of Commerce and Management, will speak on Economics in the HSC.
The students pay a minimal $20 fee to cover the costs of presenters (although the SCU School of Education usually makes a loss on the event).
For more information contact the HSC Day co-ordinator Marilyn Chaseling, in SCU’s School of Education, Ph: 6620 3801, or Robert Smith, School of Education: Ph: 6620 3753, M: 0427 009593, or
