SCU graduate takes out Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship

Southern Cross University honours graduate and Lismore artist, Karlee Rawkins, has taken out the prestigious 2003 Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship announced by the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney today.
26-year-old Karlee, from Corndale, completed her honours year in visual arts at SCU in 1999.
Her winning work, Bitch in India was painted with acrylics and damar varnish on canvas. It was inspired by a visit to India and Nepal in 2000 and 2001.
There were 172 entries for the 2003 Whiteley scholarship which is open to artists aged between 20 and 30 years of age.
Karlee wins $25,000 and a three month residency in Paris at the Cite Internationale des Arts.
