Southern Cross University put outs the welcome sign at Coffs Harbour campus

Southern Cross University is small, but what it lacks in size and prestige, it makes up for in energy, confidence and positive graduate satisfaction ratings, according to the 2004 edition of the prestigious Good Universities Guide published this week.

SCU’s three campuses scored the maximum five stars for flexibility with entry requirements and four stars for graduate satisfaction. The Coffs Harbour campus scored a further four stars for its electronic support of students and four stars for academic services.

On Tuesday, August 12, from 4pm to 8pm, Coffs Harbour district residents can see for themselves why SCU rates so highly when the university opens its doors to prospective students and their families.

The open day will include two forums, one targeting parents of school leavers who are thinking about enrolling at SCU and the other at people thinking about returning to study.

A panel of university staff will cover topics such as HECs and university fees, residential accommodation, computer needs and learning assistance. SCU lecturers and staff, representing all the faculties, will also be available to provide information about individual courses and answer questions.

Prospective students will also have the chance to tour the campus, including the student residential accommodation and the multi-media labs. The Student Association, which will be providing food for the evening, will also be on hand to answer questions.

SCU offers a wide range of courses across the following schools: Arts, Education, Technology Education, Law and Justice, Multimedia and Information Technology, Psychology, Social Science, Commerce and Management, Tourism and Hospitality Management, Environmental Science and Management, Exercise Science and Sport Management, Natural and Complementary Medicine, Nursing and Health Care Practices, and the College of Indigenous Australian People.

The open day will be held from 4pm to 8pm in the Osprey Restaurant at the Coffs Harbour Education Campus, Hogbin Drive.
