This Saturday (23 August) from 10am till 3pm, Southern Cross University (SCU) opens the doors of its Lismore campus to potential students, their families and friends for workshops and information sessions across the university’s three main divisions, Arts, Business and Health and Applied Sciences.
Highlights include:
Forums and question and answer sessions for parents of school leavers who are thinking about enrolling at SCU, and for mature age students thinking about university study.
SCU’s School of Exercise Science & Sport Management is offering free testing of physical fitness skills in the Sports Hall as well as demonstrations of testing equipment. Visitors can also take a tour with current postgraduate researchers through testing laboratories in P block, which includes Biochemistry, Exercise Physiology and Biomechanics.
The School of Law & Justice will be holding a Mooting Competition from 9:30, which includes mock trials with finals being judged at 2pm.
There will be tours of the Koala Care Centre at 11.00, 12 noon and 1.00, where visitors can see koalas in care, hear a brief talk on koala biology as well as rescue, caring and release activities. Visitors will see how the koala food trees are propagated and grown in
the plant nursery and can purchase native plants to support the Care Centre's operation.
There will be live entertainment in the Goodman Plaza from 1pm featuring Voltron, a dynamic five-piece band made up of SCU’s School of Contemporary Music’s Third Year students playing funk-influenced contemporary pop. Members of the public are also invited to tour the music school’s facilities and attend an undergraduate course overview by guitarist and Associate Professor Jon Fitzgerald at 12:30.
If you’re interested in a career in visual arts, humanities, business, IT, natural medicine, nursing, psychology, tourism, indigenous studies or social sciences, this is your chance to ask questions, tour the facilities and obtain the information you need to undertake university study.
