Now that year 12 results are out, students across Queensland and New South Wales are faced with the daunting task of what – and where – to study next year.
To help make that decision a bit easier, Southern Cross University (SCU) is holding a free Information Session before Christmas at its Tweed Gold Coast campus.

SCU’s Acting Executive Dean of Business, Associate Professor Keith Sloan, said the aim of the session was to help students make more informed decisions about which study path to take in the lead up to the New Year.

“This is a really stressful time for many school leavers,” A/Professor Sloan said. “Many of them want to have a sense of what they’re doing in the New Year so they can enjoy the holiday period. This Information Session will enable them to chat with lecturers, look around the campus and ask questions.”

The Information Session will focus on study options relating to tourism event management, business and social sciences. The Bachelor of Business in Convention and Tourism Event Management is a new course offering career opportunities in Australia’s fastest growing tourism industry. Students can learn to plan and stage events in areas such as corporate meeting and exhibitions, local and regional festivals, major touring festivals such as ‘The Big Day Out’ and international events such as the Olympic Games.

The University’s Bachelor of Business offers career opportunities ranging from marketing and accounting to international business and logistics management. The degree is focused on helping graduates develop essential attributes such as leadership, confidence and decision-making capabilities.

SCU also offers the Bachelor of Social Science. This degree allows students to develop an understanding of the social world in which they live, as well as skills to kick-start their careers in counselling, welfare, human resource management or politics.

The free SCU Information Session will be held from 7-8.30pm (NSW time) on Tuesday, December 21 at Tweed Gold Coast campus in Brett Street, Tweed Heads.
