Southern Cross University’s (SCU) Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Rickard, will leave the University in July after accepting an appointment as Vice-Chancellor and President of Central Queensland University.
Professor Rickard, who has been with SCU for four years, said he took great pride and pleasure in the progress SCU had made in the last few years.
“There have been many highlights during my time at SCU and it has been a privilege to work with the dedicated staff,” Professor Rickard said.
“We have a high quality, committed staff acknowledged by our students as providing an outstanding academic and support environment – in short a ‘quality’ university experience.
“We have established a number of international quality research centres and a terrific array of innovative and imaginative teaching and research programs.”
Professor Rickard said student preferences to study at SCU had increased dramatically over the last few years and would continue to grow.
“The new campus at Tweed Gold Coast is booming and our brand name is gaining recognition at a rapid rate.”
He said he had thoroughly enjoyed his time at SCU, but was now looking forward to a new challenge at Central Queensland University. He will take up his new appointment in August.
The Chancellor of SCU, the Honourable Justice John Dowd, extended his best wishes to Professor Rickard following today’s announcement.
Justice Dowd said he looked forward to working with Professor Rickard until he commenced his new appointment in August 2004.
He said during the four years that Professor Rickard had been with the University it had experienced strong student growth and unprecedented success in research activities.
SCU’s Council Secretary, Mr Malcolm Marshall, said a decision on the process for appointing a new Vice-Chancellor would be made at the next University Council meeting on February 20.
