The Vice-Chancellor of Southern Cross University (SCU) has welcomed the Labor Party’s announcement to offer more student places from 2005.
Responding to an announcement today at the SCU Lismore Campus by the Shadow Minister for Education, Jenny Macklin, the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Paul Clark, said he applauded any commitment to improve access to higher education in regional universities.
The Labor Party has announced it will provide an additional 215 places for SCU over four years, commencing next year.
“This University is committed to ensuring that tertiary education is available, and accessible, to people from the region,” Professor Clark said.
“The announcement recognises the University’s need for continued growth to meet increasing demand for higher education in the region.
“Extra places would enable us to expand education opportunities provided at our Lismore, Coffs Harbour and Tweed Gold Coast campuses.”
Professor Clark said he was particularly heartened by the Labor Party’s commitment to develop an indexation strategy aimed at ensuring appropriate recurrent funding to meet the future needs of the University.
