Senior Schools Day at SCU

More than 600 regional High School students will attend Senior Schools Day at Southern Cross University’s Lismore Campus on Friday 3 December.

With just a year to go before the Year 11 students sit their HSC exams, Senior Schools Day will give students in the region an opportunity to find out what courses are available, and how to go about applying.

SCU Prospective Student Advisor, Mr Glenn Jeffery, said the Senior Schools day is not just informative for students, but also experiential.

“We want to give students the chance to get a feel for what it might be like to be a university student.”

“Academic schools provide students with information on courses, study loads and career opportunities, but they also show students around the lecture rooms, computer labs and other facilities the students might use in the future.”

“The Year 11 students will also be introduced to current SCU students, who will talk to them about the highs and lows of University life.”

“We hope the day will give them some real insight into what might lie ahead for them if they go on to study at SCU,” Mr Jeffery said.

Lismore High, Careers Advisor, Bill Goldie said the day was enormously beneficial to the year 11’s because it helped them focus on their academic goals.

“It’s a wonderful day to give students an idea of what university is like and how it is structured. It motivates them to work harder to get to University and gives them some idea of the skills necessary to be successful at University study,” Mr Goldie said.

Students will be travelling from as far as Maclean and the Tweed to attend the day which runs from 10.00 – 2.30pm. Information on scholarships, accommodation and students services will also be available on the day.

Media note: 600 Year 11 students will be in the Whitebrook Theatre from 10.00am – 11.00am. and students will also be in science and media labs.
