Sombreros, maracas and a fiesta atmosphere will mark Southern Cross University’s Orientation Week celebrations from Monday 14th – 25th February to introduce new students and welcome returning students to the University’s Lismore campus.
Highlights include a performance by stand-up comedian Will Anderson, of the ABC’s Glass House program and formerly of Triple J. Will has a dedicated fan base, following performances at theatres throughout Australia as well as last year’s Edinburgh Comedy festival. His performance at the University’s Campus Central on Wednesday 23rd February is open to students and their guests. Tickets must be pre-purchased.
The clubs and societies day on the 23rd February from 10am-2pm is open to members of the public interested in a range of sports including baseball, badminton, hockey, netball, rugby union (men and women’s), soccer, softball, surfing, sailing, rowing and yoga.
“The majority of the sporting teams compete in the Far North Coast local competitions so they are very much open to members of the public," said Dave Graham Marketing Activities Manager for Campus Central.
There is also a range of social clubs including the law society, green club, bible talks, multi media and nursing.
Dave Graham says it is great to have the students back for another year, and that their presence has a positive impact on the community.
“The influx of students is great – they’re out and about buying groceries, participating in the community, and it’s a good thing."
Students and their families are invited to a family fun day featuring face painting, a treasure hunt, merry-go-round and clown at the University’s Medicine Garden. Other events include student movie nights, sample bags, a trivia challenge and ten pin bowling.
