Southern Cross will hold information sessions at the Lismore and Tweed Gold Coast campuses next week, providing details on course information, admission and university life for anyone considering studying with SCU in 2006.
The sessions will be held at Lismore on Tuesday, September 27, from 6pm to 8pm, and at the Tweed Gold Coast campus on Wednesday, September 28, from 6pm to 8pm.
Both school leavers and non-school leavers are invited to the sessions, held after-hours to maximise accessibility for all potential students.
Director of Student Services at SCU Carl Rallings said the information sessions were a useful first step to find out first-hand about study options, campus life and to have questions answered.
"They are an opportunity for future students to gain an overview and then spend time with SCU staff from particular areas of study finding out about courses or getting queries answered," Mr Rallings said.
The information sessions will include a short presentation on topics such as starting out at uni, applying for university, student services, and library and technical support. Current students will also speak briefly on student and campus life. Sessions then allow time to meet with representatives from specific programs and areas of study.
Potential SCU students, both year-12 school leavers and mature age students, interested in undergraduate programs through internal study with SCU have until September 30 to apply through the Tertiary Admission Centres, with late fees applying after this date. Applicants who want to study externally or enrol in a postgraduate program apply directly to SCU for entry.
Mr Rallings said the booklet "Find your place" was a useful guide to undergraduate entry to SCU for both school leavers and mature age students. It can be downloaded from www.scu.edu.au/findyourplace or sent by post or email following request to SCU Student Services.
The Lismore information session will be held in the Campus Central Union Building, with entry via Military Road entrance, East Lismore. The Tweed Gold Coast session will be held at the campus in Brett Street, Tweed Heads, in rooms 2.23 and 2.24.
More information about SCU information sessions is at www.scu.edu.au/events/infosessions or call to reserve a place (to allow planning for seating arrangements) on the toll-free number 1800 626481.
