Southern Cross University is to offer its highly regarded Bachelor of Primary Education at its Coffs Harbour campus from 2006.
The decision was made after considering demand for the course and the needs of the communities of the Mid North Coast.
"We're delighted to be able to provide this course at Coffs Harbour, so that students wanting to pursue a career in primary education have the local option of this respected degree," said Professor Martin Hayden, the Head of the School of Education at Southern Cross University.
"It's an opportunity for students to train in their own region."
The Coffs Harbour campus has undergone significant growth during the past few years, and a $2.7 million expansion of student and staff facilities is on track for completion in time for the start of the 2006 academic year.
"We are investing heavily in new infrastructure and see a very bright future ahead for our Coffs Harbour campus," Professor Zbys Klich, Head of Campus said.
"Primary education is a very welcome addition to our course offerings."
As well as Primary Education, the Bachelor of Multimedia is also being offered in 2006 at Coffs Harbour campus, along with a broad range of programs in Arts, Business, Information Technology, Marine Management, Nursing, Psychology, Technology Education and Hotel and Resort Management.
