Year 12 legal studies students from Coffs Harbour north to the Queensland border will get tips and advice on their upcoming HSC exam at a Legal Studies Seminar at Southern Cross University's Lismore campus on Thursday, September 8.
The seminar is being hosted by the SCU School of Law and Justice in conjunction with the Far North Coast Legal Studies Teachers' Association and the Legal Studies Association.
Students from 30 schools throughout the region will hear guest lectures on the topics of human rights, crime and family law. HSC markers will also be on hand to give tips on how to answer the questions to get the most marks.
Professor Stanley Yeo, Head of the School of Law and Justice, said this was the ninth seminar to be held for Year 12 students.
"This provides students in the region with access to specialist lecturers, so they can hear about the latest legal developments which are relevant to their studies. It also gives the legal studies students a taste of what it's like studying at a university," Professor Yeo said.
Guest speakers will include Southern Cross University lecturers Richard Harris, on family law, Sam Garkawe, on human rights, and Tom Round, on criminal law. Other speakers will be Joanne McFarland and Tracey McIntosh, from the Legal Studies Association, and Tony Ridgway, from Alstonville High School.
