More than 90 Southern Cross University doctoral candidates, supervisors and other academic staff from throughout Australia, New Zealand and Hawaii will attend a three-day symposium at the Tweed Gold Coast Campus from November 11 to 13.

The symposium will feature a presentation by Dr Rod Dilnutt, Managing Director of William Bethwey and Associates, Melbourne. Dr Dilnutt completed a Doctor of Business Administration through SCU in 2000 and is internationally renowned in the field of knowledge management. The other key speaker for the event is SCU's Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Peter Baverstock.

Associate Professor Peter Miller, Director of the DBA program, said the symposium was a great opportunity for candidates and supervisors to come together to talk about their research.

The doctoral research undertaken by the candidates is diverse and ranges from research on windpower to aged care. Much of the research undertaken has commercial implications and published results of the research in international journals makes SCU's Graduate College of Management the highest publishing organisational unit per academic staff member at the University.

Southern Cross University runs the largest DBA program in Australia and offers the program offshore in locations including Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and New Zealand. It also has PhD candidates through partner institutions in Hawaii and Singapore.

Professor Miller said the symposiums were run twice a year to ensure candidates had the opportunity to network with other candidates and leaders in their field of research.

"It enables candidates from right around the world to meet face-to-face and to get some feedback on their research projects. This is one of the reasons our DBA program is so attractive."

The SCU Doctoral Symposium will be held at the Tweed Gold Coast campus on November 11, 12 and 13.
