More than 300 tourism and hospitality students and graduates will find out about a range of career options at the 3rd Annual Joint Careers Day hosted by Southern Cross University (SCU) and Griffith University at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre on Tuesday (April 4).

The Careers Day starts at 12.30pm and will be attended by students and graduates from SCU's School of Tourism and Hospitality Management and Griffith University's Department of Tourism, Leisure, Hotel and Sport Management.

SCU Internship Co-ordinator Ms Leanne Baker said representatives from more than 30 organisations would be available to talk about career opportunities.

"Graduates are likely to work in a variety of positions for up to 10 different organisations during their working life. Careers Day is a great opportunity to meet with these potential employers and internship providers," Ms Baker said.

SCU's Head of School of Tourism and Hospitality Management Associate Professor Ngaire Douglas said this was an ideal opportunity for tourism operators in Northern NSW and South East Queensland to showcase their operations to future graduates of both universities and promote the career opportunities available within their organisations.

"Tourism operators will also be able to assess and identify students and graduates for potential part-time employment, internship placement and management traineeships," Professor Douglas said.

The organisations attending the event range from hotels and resorts, such as the Sheraton Mirage Gold Coast, Hilton Brisbane and Hayman Island, to the Australian Tourism Export Council and Brisbane Lions Australian Football Club.
