High school students get a taste of university life

More than 400 high school students from Gloucester to Grafton will find out all about life at university during Senior Schools Day at Southern Cross University’s Coffs Harbour campus on Tuesday, November 28.

The annual Senior Schools Day provides students who are going into Year 12 with first-hand information about the university experience, courses on offer and how to apply.

The day will include specific information covering courses available at the three Southern Cross University campuses in Coffs Harbour, Lismore and Tweed Gold Coast.

Organiser Ms Lucinda Hutchinson said it was a great opportunity for senior high school students to have a look around the campus and hear first-hand from teaching staff and current students.

“Students will have the chance to ask questions about all aspects of going to university, including accommodation and costs,” Ms Hutchinson said.

In addition to the program for students, school careers advisors will attend a forum on how to improve access to university for regional and disadvantaged students. This will include topics such as TAFE articulation, special admission schemes and the Preparing for Success program.

The Senior Schools Day will be held at the Coffs Harbour campus on Tuesday, November 28 from 10am to 2pm. A Senior Schools Day is also being held at the Lismore campus for students in the North Coast region on Thursday, November 30.
