Enhancing the educational opportunities for residents of the Clarence Valley is one of the aims of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Southern Cross University and the Clarence Valley Council.
The MOU will be signed at the Maclean council chambers on Monday, August 7, by Southern Cross University Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Clark and Clarence Valley Council Mayor Cr Ian Tiley.
Professor Clark said he welcomed the opportunity to strengthen the links with the Council.
“We have a strong commitment to contributing to the growth of our regions and have been working very closely with local government throughout the Mid North and North Coast,” Professor Clark said.
“The Clarence Valley is an important part of our regional footprint and we look forward to the many opportunities this association will bring.
“We will be looking closely at how we can improve access to education for residents in this area and other activities that will provide benefits for the Council, the University and the community.”
Mayor Cr Ian Tiley said the strengthening of ties with Southern Cross University would provide significant benefits for the region.
“This will lead to greater co-operation and provide opportunities for academic and educational input into the social, cultural, economic and environmental development of this area,” Cr Tiley said.
“We will be looking at areas such as professional development and research collaborations which will have flow-on benefits for the whole community.”
