Studying will be that little bit easier for 11 Southern Cross University students after they accept almost $50,000 worth of scholarships at the Tweed Gold Coast campus tomorrow (Friday, May 11).

Among them is third-year Bachelor of Business student and South Tweed Heads resident Jhoanna Mendoza, the recipient of a three-year Tweed Shire Council scholarship.

“This scholarship has been fantastic,” Jhoanna said. “Each semester the payment covers my HECS (Higher Education Contribution Scheme) fees and contributes significantly to the cost of my textbooks.”

Jo’s scholarship is one of seven offered by the Tweed Shire Council. The Tweed Heads Bowls Club also sponsors a three-year scholarship and another three students will this year receive the Mick Young Scholarship.

Photo opportunity: The scholarships will be officially awarded at 10am, Friday, May 11, in the South Sea Island Room of the Tweed Civic Centre.
