STAR scheme shines

Southern Cross University has experienced a 25 per cent increase in the number of school leavers applying directly to the University for study in 2008 via its STAR Entry Scheme.

The STAR Entry Scheme is designed to assist year 12 students to gain entry to Southern Cross University and is open to students in the region from the NSW Central Coast, west to the NSW/SA border and north to the Greater Gold Coast.

Mr Carl Rallings, group director for Student Services, said they had received more than 1500 applications via the STAR scheme - an increase of 25 per cent on the previous year.

The most popular courses across the University for 2008 are the Bachelor of Education (Primary), Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science. The Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) and Bachelor of Arts have also attracted strong interest.

“The STAR Entry Scheme is a principal’s recommendation scheme and is designed to take the stress out of applying for University. There is no cost to apply and the early offers will be made in mid-November before the HSC results are released,” Mr Rallings said.

“It also provides a second chance. If you don’t receive an early offer, your STAR application will be assessed along with your UAI or OP score and individual subject results to provide another opportunity for gaining entry. These offers will be sent before Christmas.”

Mr Rallings said another benefit of the STAR Entry Scheme was that all applicants were considered for a range of industry and Vice-Chancellor’s scholarships.
