After more than 15 years of running the Year 11 Information Day at Southern Cross University, prospective student advisor Glenn Jeffery reckons he knows what it is that draws schools back again each year.

“This is a great opportunity for students and their teachers to come on to the Lismore campus and see what Southern Cross University has to offer,” he said. “We will be holding a similar day on the Coffs Harbour campus on November 13 for students in the Mid North Coast region.

“We take students right through all the processes involved in enrolling so they fully understand what courses are offered and how to gain admission at any one of our three campuses at Tweed Gold Coast, Coffs Harbour and Lismore.

“They learn about how to apply for the many scholarships that are available and all about our alternative entry schemes.

“The University offers extensive support services for students and we take the opportunity to explain what these are and how they operate.

“Students get to attend two separate information sessions which are hosted by academics teaching in the student’s preferred study area. They can discuss what the program involves, look at the facilities where they will be learning, and discuss career outcomes for graduates in that field of study.

“At the end of the day we host a panel session which brings together many of our existing students who talk about why they chose to study at Southern Cross University and how their studies are progressing.

“This year we will feature students who came from local high schools and those who came from much further away. There will be students who left the Northern Rivers to study elsewhere and then returned to complete their study with us. They will offer a very interesting cross-section of experiences.”

The Year 11 Information Day, previously known as Senior Schools Day, will see about 500 students from Maclean to the Gold Coast and west to Bonalbo and Woodenbong attending the Lismore campus on Tuesday, June 26.

Schools must book to attend. For more information contact Glenn Jeffery on 6620 3102 or email glenn.jeffery@scu.edu.au.
