An evening with Germaine Greer

Germaine Greer has been in the business of jolting people out of established theories and complacent thought for decades and now she will be sharing her controversial viewpoints at a special public talk hosted by the Northern Rivers Writers’ Centre at Southern Cross University’s Lismore campus and at the Byron Bay Community and Cultural Centre.

Widely regarded as one of the most significant feminist voices of our times, the UK-based but Australian-born best-selling author of Shakespeare’s Wife and The Female Eunuch will speak at Southern Cross University’s Whitebrook Theatre on Wednesday, March 19 at 7pm and at Byron Bay on Tuesday, March 18, at 7pm.

Ms Greer’s visit has been facilitated by the Northern Rivers Writers’ Centre who say: “Lovers of English literature, of history and of women’s studies will be drawn by her dynamic reconstruction of Elizabethan society. However, the appeal is more than scholarly. Using a wealth of research and analysis, Greer approaches her subject with wit, with passion and with a great deal of insight. Leading lights in the worlds of history and literature pounced on the highly contentious Shakespeare’s Wife and the brilliantly argued hypotheses set forth - and debate still rages. Once more, Germaine Greer challenges popular conception and blasts open new fields of investigation.”

Ms Greer gained her PhD from Cambridge University with a thesis on Shakespeare’s early comedies, and has taught Shakespearean studies at universities in Australia, Britain and the US.
