Christmas has come early for Goonellabah student David Outerbridge.

His best present has been an excellent Higher School Certificate result with a UAI score of 95.65. The former Kadina High School student has also won early acceptance into a Bachelor of Business degree at Southern Cross University.

“I have always had a thing for numbers and knew from an early age that I wanted to study in that field,” David said.

“I have chosen to do a major in accountancy because there is a constant and growing demand for accountants and you can always get well-paid employment.”

David said he had chosen to study at Southern Cross University because both of his brothers were already studying there and were extremely happy with the quality of teaching and their whole university experience.

“My brother Jonathon is also studying for his Bachelor of Business and my other brother Nathan is studying for his Bachelor of Environmental Science,” David said.

“For me it seemed a natural choice as I have great support from my parents and I will be able to live at home and save a little bit of money during my studies.

“I have already been offered an accountancy internship with Thomas, Noble and Russell, a firm of Lismore accountants and I start that job next February. I will combine part-time work with part-time study and that will suit me very well.”

David said he had studied ‘hard and consistently’ throughout his senior years at high school, but was still surprised he did so well.

“I felt pretty burnt out towards the end of the year and I was worried that might have affected my performance in the exams, so I am very happy to have done so well,” he said.

“Now what I am looking forward to is getting out into the workforce and having a go at a new challenge.”
