Anyone considering a career in teaching can find out about all the education courses on offer at Southern Cross University in 2009 at an information session on Tuesday, September 9, at the Coffs Harbour campus.
The Teach and Make a Difference information session will provide an overview of all the courses available, as well as practical advice on scholarships and how to apply.
There are a range of teaching courses offered at the Coffs Harbour campus including the Bachelor of Education (Primary) and the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood), which was introduced in 2008. This course prepares graduates to teach children aged from 0 to eight years in a variety of settings including pre-schools, primary schools, long-day care centres and other early childhood settings.
Associate Professor Anne Graham, head of the School of Education, said there was a growing recognition of the importance of early childhood education.
“Early childhood education has been recognised as a national priority area by State and Federal governments. Southern Cross University has always had a strong emphasis on quality teacher education and we were very keen to add this critical area to our suite of existing education courses,” Professor Graham said.
The course is focused on improving outcomes for children in the early years and is underpinned by a strong emphasis on social inclusion.
“Our education courses are among the first in the country to have Indigenous culture and perspectives embedded throughout. We see that as critical for all teachers – both within Indigenous and non-Indigenous settings,” Professor Graham said.
Other education courses at the Coffs Harbour campus include Bachelor of Technology Education, Bachelor of Education (Secondary) and the combined Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education (Secondary).
