Psychology students present research findings

People’s understanding of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and its causes is just one of the research projects completed by psychology students at Southern Cross University.

The fourth year Bachelor of Psychology students will be presenting the findings of their final year research projects at the annual Department of Psychology Conference in Coffs Harbour tomorrow (Friday, September 19).

Dr Lewis Bizo, head of the Department of Psychology, said the students had completed a range of research studies covering topics such as the community’s understanding of homelessness, asylum seekers and attitudes to organ donation. A range of laboratory-based projects were also undertaken investigating visual perception and the use of computer simulations for changing behaviour.

“As part of their final assessment, the students are required to present the results of their findings to their peers and staff. Many of the students worked closely with members of the community and we would encourage people to come along and hear the results,” Dr Bizo said.

“This research project is a core element of our four-year Bachelor of Psychology degree, which has developed a reputation for excellence in teaching and research.”

Dr Bizo said the academic staff were involved in a range of international collaborations, providing students with the opportunity to undertake research which had both regional and global significance.

“We are working closely with many sectors of the community and have established long-term connections with both government and non-government organisations through these projects,” he said.

The conference is being held at Opal Cove Resort on Friday, September 19, from 9.30am.
