For anyone considering university study, Southern Cross University is offering mid-year entry into a wide range of courses both on campus and by distance education.

Mid-year entry is becoming an increasingly popular choice for students who are often juggling work, family and other commitments.

Applications through UAC (Universities Admissions Centre) close on Friday 13 June, with offers released on Monday 30 June 2008. Applications for distance education can be made direct to Southern Cross University.

Courses are available in areas including arts, information technology, business, tourism and hospitality management, nursing, Indigenous studies, social science, education, environmental science and management and legal and justice studies.

Southern Cross University also offers the popular Preparing for Success program. This course is designed to smooth the path for would-be undergraduates by teaching them the practical research, computing and analytical skills they need to pursue their academic studies.

Preparing for Success lecturer Lyn Gannon said that the course broke down the barriers for those who had their heart set on a degree but didn’t quite meet the entry requirements.

“The course is useful for school leavers or TAFE students who have taken the vocational strand of learning but would now like to go to university, or for those who have spent time away from the academic environment for family or personal reasons and want to brush up their skills,” Ms Gannon said.

Preparing for Success is offered at the Lismore and Coffs Harbour campuses, and now at the Tweed Gold Coast campus at evenings and weekends to offer flexibility to those juggling other commitments. It is also available by distance education. As there is no HECS fee charged to students, the course is free.

The Indigenous Foundation Program is also offered at the Lismore and Coffs Harbour campuses. This is a six month full-time enabling course designed to prepare Indigenous Australians for study at Southern Cross University.

More information on all the courses available for mid-year entry is available at the website www.scu.edu.au/midyear/. Personalised campus tours are also available at all campuses and can be booked by phoning 6620 3975.
