Wait is over for STAR students

The anxious wait for a university offer is now over for close to 1000 prospective students who this week received an early offer to Southern Cross University.
The early offers, made through UAC today (December 5) and QTAC earlier this week, means those students don’t need to wait until their University Admission Index (UAI) is released.
Admissions manager Mr Peter Barnard said around 500 of the early offers being made by SCU were to Year 12 students as a result of a successful application through the STAR Entry Scheme, based on high school principal recommendations.
The STAR Entry Scheme is available to Year 12 students in the region from the NSW Central Coast in the south, west to the NSW/SA border, north to the Darling Downs in Queensland and including the greater Gold Coast.
“We are very keen to make offers early so people can relax over Christmas and have time to organise their lives and prepare for their study in 2009,” Mr Barnard said.
“And for those who haven’t yet received an offer there’s still plenty of time. Further offers will be made in the second December offer round via QTAC, just before Christmas, and the UAC preliminary round in the first week of January.”
The main round of offers will be released on January 15 for QTAC and January 21 for UAC.
Mr Barnard said it was also still not too late to apply. For people wanting to be included in the main round, applications close on December 12. The final deadline for applications for on-campus study is February 5.
“For anyone considering studying by distance education, applications can be made directly to Southern Cross University and there is no charge. They will also find out before Christmas if they have gained a place,” he said.
“We aim to provide a range of flexible study options as we know that many people have to juggle various commitments.”
Southern Cross University offers personalised campus tours. These can be booked at any of the campuses by phoning 02 66203975.
