The second combined exhibition featuring works from graduating Southern Cross University and TAFE visual arts students will be on show in Lismore from March 3 until March 21.

The annual exhibition, titled TANDEM10, will showcase the works of five students from TAFE’s Fine Arts and Ceramics courses and five students graduating from Southern Cross University’s Bachelor of Visual Arts.

It will include animation, installation, painting with mixed media, artist books, ceramics and works on paper, including drawing, traditional and digital printmaking.

Leonie Lane, Southern Cross University visual arts lecturer, said the collaboration had led to strong ties between students and staff at TAFE and the University.

“We share some of our teaching staff and we collaborate in group exhibitions. We also have a stream of students coming from TAFE to continue their studies,” Ms Lane said.

“We have many excellent students coming to us who are very worthy of the advanced standing they get when they come into the Bachelor of Visual Arts degree.”

TAFE Lismore’s Fine Arts teacher Michael Cusack said both institutions were delighted the combined exhibition had now become an annual event.

“Ours is a small artistic community in the Northern Rivers,” he said. “We are all practicing artists with common interests who can learn from each other through the process of exhibiting. It’s all about making the art experience more inclusive.”

The featured artists in this year’s exhibition are: Emily Gallagher, Annique Goldenberg, Jakobena Jolley, Evan Kosack, Annamarie Merz, Peter McGowan, Dennis Munday, Travis Paterson, Debra Rankin and James Smythe.

The exhibition will be held at the Southern Cross University’s Next Gallery at 89 Magellan Street, Lismore, from Tuesday, March 3, until Friday March 21.

It will be officially opened by John Smith, Southern Cross University Bachelor of Visual Arts course co-ordinator and Michael Cusack, TAFE Lismore acting head teacher in arts and media on Wednesday, March 4, at 5pm.
