Yanning (Annie) Wang is looking forward to putting the knowledge she has learned on her course into practice to improve the links between Australia and her home country China.
The Master of Convention and Event Management student is one of 17 Southern Cross University students who will have their study recognised at a Course Completion Ceremony at the Tweed Civic Centre today Friday, April 3.
Annie, who will give a speech at the ceremony, said she had gained a lot from her study, as well as enjoying the lifestyle.
“I feel sure that all the knowledge I have learnt will be of use in my future career, and I feel I now have the confidence to tackle a whole range of challenges,” said Annie.
“My goal is to use my knowledge of Chinese culture and the things I have learned here to build a bridge between the two and increase mutual understanding between China and Australia.
“I’ve enjoyed the beaches and the beautiful environment here as well as the friendly Australian people.
“I’m planning to stay for another 18 months so I can get more work experience and improve my English.”
International Office student support officer Sarah Rogers said the ceremony was an opportunity for the students to mark finishing their studies.
“Some of the students have to return home before the formal graduation ceremony in September because of visa constraints, so this is an opportunity for them to celebrate the completion of their studies,” said Ms Rogers.
“International students enjoy studying here because of the standard of the courses, the location and the lifestyle. Many of them come from big cities, so they find this campus very personal and friendly.”
The students taking part in the course completion ceremony are finishing courses in Master of Business Administration, Master International Tourism and Hotel Management, Master Professional Accounting and Bachelor of Business Administration.
The official address will be given by Director of the International Office Jo Asquith. Professor Ian Eddie, Director of the Graduate College of Management will present students with their completion certificates.
Media are invited to attend today, Friday April 3 at 1.15pm (NSW time) as international students celebrate after the course completion ceremony in the courtyard between the civic centre and Southern Cross University, Tweed Gold Coast campus, Brett Street.
International students and staff will be available for photographs and interview.
