Like many school leavers across the country, Jessica Armour is looking forward to a new life at university.

The former Murwillumbah High School student was so impressed by the two new courses at Southern Cross University’s Tweed Gold Coast campus, she struggled to decide between the two, eventually swapping her early acceptance into the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood), for a new application into the Bachelor of Occupational Therapy.

Jessica, who achieved a UAI score of 82.45, said she had found it easier to make decisions about her future once the pressure of HSC exams was off.

“I’m attracted to both career paths, but the versatility of the Occupational Therapy (OT) course appeals to me,” said Jessica.

“Once I had some time to think about it, I realised that with an OT qualification it is possible to work in a wider range of different environments – so in the end I decided to give that first priority.”

Jessica said she had chosen to study at Southern Cross University for a number of reasons.

“Some of my friends are already studying there, and they told me they found both the lecturers and the whole Tweed Gold Coast campus community to be really friendly and welcoming,” she said.

“I wanted to be close to home, and once I found out they were offering a wider variety of courses, I went for it.”

Jessica said she had studied hard for her HSC, but didn’t let it overwhelm her.

“I did as much as I could do and I was happy with whatever I got in the end,” she said.

“At the end of the day I still always had a smile on my face and that’s the important thing.”

School leavers like Jessica as well as mature age students still have time to apply for a 2009 place at Southern Cross University as offers will continue to be made throughout January and early February.

There are a number of exciting study options covering every possible need for busy people juggling work, friends and family commitments.
