They say ‘home is where the heart is’ and Southern Cross University digital art and design students have put their heart into designing a new logo for a youth organisation providing homes for the region’s homeless youth.

The students spent the beginning of the year looking at ‘home’ as a central theme. This broad theme included visual interpretations of the notion of 'dwelling' - a concept that connects the individual and society - as well as exploring aspects of homelessness.

This activity provided reference material for a final project – designing a logo for Community Connections North Coast Inc, a community-based non-profit organisation funded by a range of state and Australian Government departments and philanthropic organisations.

Community Connections provides a range of services in the region that include accommodation assistance for homeless youth in Lismore and surrounding areas. They are soon to change their name to Youth Connections North Coast Inc.

Community Connections invited Southern Cross University’s Bachelor of Visual Arts students to construct a logo for Youth Connections that has the potential to be used across a variety of formats as well as for a promotional pull-down banner.

Their colourful and innovative design concepts are being showcased in an exhibition being held at the University library exhibition space daily until Friday, July 10.

Members of the public, staff and students are invited to come and visit the exhibition and vote for their preferred design.

The exhibition will be opened by the Mayor of Lismore, Jenny Dowell on Thursday, July 2, at 4pm. Members of the community, students and staff of Southern Cross University are all welcome to the opening.

Southern Cross University Library opening hours are:
Monday - Thursday 8.00 am - 9.00 pm;
Friday 8.00 am - 6.00 pm;
Sat - Sun 1.00 pm - 5.00 pm.
