Hugh Mackay to visit the North Coast

Southern Cross University’s Regional Futures Institute is delighted to welcome social researcher, psychologist and novelist, Hugh Mackay, to the North Coast next week for the launch of his new book, ‘What makes us tick? The ten desires that drive us’.

He will discuss his book and participate in audience discussions at three two-hour public launch events to be held in Lismore, Byron Bay and Coffs Harbour on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The book incorporates his account of the things he has learnt from listening to people talk about their dreams, their fears, their faith, their hopes, their disappointments, their frustrations and their fantasies over the course of his career.

Hugh Mackay is a psychologist, social researcher and novelist. He has a Masters degree in moral philosophy and was one of the founders of the St James Ethics Centre. His publication, The Mackay Report, was the benchmark of social research in Australia for more than 30 years. His most recent books are ‘Advance Australia Where?’, ‘Ways of Escape’, ‘Right & Wrong’ and ‘Winter Close’.

The Lismore launch will be held on Tuesday, November 9 at the Lismore Workers Club from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. The cost is $20 and a complimentary drink is included. The Byron Bay launch will be held on Wednesday, November 10 at the Brewery, Skinners Shoot Road from 7am to 9am. The cost is $35 for Byron United members and $40 for the general public and includes a breakfast. Payments must be made in advance at the time of booking using credit card or by electronic transfer.
